Book an appointment

Booking

How do I book an appointment?

Everything goes through my online booking page. If you are new, send me a photo of your hair and fill in the consultation form first, then pick your service.

How much does it cost?

All prices and payment methods are listed on my booking page, next to each service.

I'm a new client. Is there anything I need to do first?

Yes, two things before you book: send me a photo of your hair as it is right now, and fill in the consultation form. That way I can check the service and timing are right for you.

Why do you need a photo of my hair before I book?

So I can see what we're working with. It tells me how long you'll need and whether the service you're after is the right one, which saves a rushed appointment later.

Do you have availability this week?

My booking calendar is always the most up to date place to check, and it shows every free slot. I usually work Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, though availability can vary. Appointments do go quickly, and last-minute slots are rarely available.

How far in advance do I need to book?

At least 24 hours before your appointment. In practice, earlier is much better, as dates go quickly and last-minute slots are rare.

How long will my appointment take?

Each duration is shown next to the service on my booking page. My latest start is 5pm, and anything over 5 hours needs an earlier start, so keep that in mind when you pick your time.

What is the consultation form?

A short form about your hair for new clients, filled in before you book any service, so I can check everything and plan your appointment. It is also where you tell me about allergies, scalp or skin conditions. If you have been before, you do not need to fill it in.

Can I book a day you don't usually work?

Possibly. My usual days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, but I am happy to accommodate if I can. Message me with the date you have in mind and I will let you know.

Do I need to fill in the consultation form every time?

No, it is just for new clients. If we have met before you can skip it.

Do I need a consultation before starting locs?

Yes. An in-person consultation is needed before starting locs or micro locs, and before any colour service. Book it at least 48 hours before your main appointment, and come with your hair out, in its natural state and free of heavy product.

What is a virtual consultation for?

It is for advice on caring for your hair and scalp, building a routine, or choosing the right service. If you are starting locs or micro locs, or booking colour, book an in-person consultation instead. Join somewhere with good natural light, with your hair out and free of heavy product.

Money

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes. A 20% non-refundable deposit secures your appointment, and you pay it when you book. Bridal hair takes 50% up front.

Is there an extra charge for lots of regrowth?

For interlocking, regrowth of over 12 weeks is charged extra because of the additional time and detail. For micro locs, book the 8 weeks and more appointment if it has been that long.

Is there an extra charge for long or tangled hair with braids?

If your natural hair is very long or needs a lot of detangling, an extra fee applies. Add detangling before service when you book.

Visiting

What happens if I don't turn up?

No-shows and cancellations on the day are charged the full 100% of the appointment fee.

When are you open?

My usual days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, from 10am. My latest start is 5pm, and services over 5 hours need to start earlier. Availability can vary, so check my booking calendar to see if the date you want is free. If you need a different day, message me and I will accommodate you if I can.

What if I'm running late?

There is a grace period of up to 20 minutes. After that, a £10 late fee is added to your appointment. If you are more than 30 minutes late, especially if you have not let me know, your appointment may be cancelled and treated as a same-day cancellation or no-show, which is charged at 100%.

How do I cancel or move my appointment?

Just let me know at least 48 hours ahead and it's no problem at all. Any later than that and I have to charge 50% of the fee, as the slot's usually too late to fill. Cancelling on the day is charged in full.

Where are you based?

S/MAC Studio, 16 Nicholson Street, Glasgow G5 9ER. If you can't find it on the day, WhatsApp me.

Will I be filmed during my appointment?

Only if you are happy to be. You can say yes with your face showing, yes with no face, or no at all, and you can change your mind any time. New clients choose on the consultation form, and I will ask everyone else on the day.

Can I be filmed without my face showing?

Absolutely. Just choose yes but no face, and I will keep you out of shot from the neck up.

Can I bring someone with me?

If you're 18 or over, no. The studio has limited space and the waiting seats need to stay free for clients.

Can you do my child's hair?

Anyone 17 or under needs to be accompanied by an adult, and I need full consent from a parent or guardian before I start. My usual minimum age is 13.

My child is under 13. Can you still see them?

Sometimes. Message me before booking and we'll work out whether the studio or a home appointment would suit them better.

Prep

What if I have allergies or a scalp condition?

Tell me on your consultation form, or message me before your appointment if something has changed. Nothing is too minor to mention.

Should I wash my hair before I come?

You do not need to, and no, it will not be discounted if you do. The wash and prep included in every service gets your hair ready to a professional standard, which is what makes your style last and keeps your hair healthy. The exceptions are knotless braids, loc trims and loc cuts, where a wash is an add-on you can pick when you book.

Which services don't include a wash?

No. Knotless braids, loc trims and loc cuts are the only services where a wash is not included. For knotless braids, add a wash and blow dry, or a wash, treatment and blow dry, when you book. For a loc trim or cut, you can add a wash and blow dry.

Do I bring my own braiding hair?

Braiding hair is not included as standard, but you can add synthetic braiding hair supplied by me when you book. I will reach out to confirm the colour with you.

Do I need to take my old style out first?

Yes please. Arrive with your hair taken down and detangled, unless you have booked a take-down service. This does not apply to locs and micro locs. Excess matting or detangling is £25 extra.

Will I be charged extra if my hair is matted?

Yes. Excess matting or detangling is £25 extra. Add Detangling when you book, so there is time to work through your hair gently and protect your length.

Do I need to bring inspo pictures?

They are encouraged. A few photos of what you want your hair to look like is the quickest way for us to land on the same idea. You do not need them for a loc retwist or a repeat of something I have already done.

Can you take my old style down for me?

Yes. I offer take-downs for cornrows, and for large or medium knotless braids. Each includes the take-down, detangling, a cleanse, shampoo and a deep conditioning treatment, and you add a blow dry or defining finish when you book. Otherwise, please arrive with your old style fully out and your hair detangled.

Hair

Tell me about knotless braids

Knotless braids are started with your natural hair for a flat, seamless finish that is lighter and gentler on your scalp and edges. I density match each braid to your natural hair, so no unnecessary heavy synthetic hair is added. They come in medium or large, mid-back or waist length.

Do you do cornrows, twists and plaits?

Yes, all with your own hair: cornrows or flat twists, twists or plaits in large, medium or small, and wig or crochet prep. Every one includes a cleanse and condition, and is braided with low tension to protect your edges.

What is a wash and define?

It is for textured hair worn in its natural state. Your hair is cleansed and conditioned, styled with curl enhancing products and diffused to bring out your curl pattern. There is also a wash and blow dry for a smooth, stretched finish.

Do you do colour?

Any colour or bleach service needs a Colour Consultation & Patch Test first, booked at least 48 hours before your appointment. You will find it on my booking page under Consultations. Message me if you cannot see the colour service you are after.

What add-ons can I book?

Depending on the service: a conditioning treatment with heat hat, a targeted scalp treatment, a trim, a cut, detangling, a loc detox, reattaching up to 10 locs, a pick and drop, boho or goddess finish for knotless braids, a creative or custom design for cornrows and flat twists, and synthetic braiding hair supplied by me. You choose them when you book.

Can I get boho, goddess or pick and drop braids?

Yes. Choose it as an add-on when you book your knotless braids.

Do you work with all hair types?

I work with type 3 and 4 hair: afro, curly, kinky and coily. All of it, within that range.

Could you ever turn down a service?

I do reserve the right to, yes. If I am not comfortable working on hair because of a scalp condition, excessive matting, hair hygiene or anything else to do with the condition of the hair and scalp, I will say so.

Do you do bridal hair?

Yes. Get in touch as soon as you have your date, as bookings can only be secured up to 2 months before the wedding at the latest.

How does bridal booking work?

A 50% deposit secures your date. Your consultation and trial are then scheduled after that, in the run-up to the wedding.

Do you do silk presses?

I am perfecting silk presses at the moment and running model calls, which you can book on my booking page. You need to be happy to be filmed, and it may take longer than usual. Model calls are not suitable if your hair is relaxed, recently coloured or bleached, heat damaged, just out of braids or long term extensions, if you have a scalp condition, or if you need your hair for an event. Keep an eye on my Instagram for when silk presses launch fully.

Locs

What kinds of loc maintenance do you offer?

Three: a palm roll retwist, interlocking, and crochet maintenance, which uses a fine crochet needle for a longer lasting hold with minimal product. Each includes a wash, and you book by how many locs you have.

What sizes of micro locs are there?

Small is around 350 to 400 locs, mini around 400 to 450, and micro 450 or more. Size, hair length and method all affect the price, and full interlocking from end to end costs extra. A consultation comes first.

Can I get my locs trimmed or cut?

Yes. A loc trim neatens uneven or thinning ends while keeping your length and shape, and a loc cut is for a bigger change, like a bob or layers. Both work for locs and micro locs. A wash is not included, so add a wash and blow dry when you book if you would like one.

Can I just get my locs washed?

Yes, there is a loc wash and blow dry for when you want clean, refreshed locs without a retwist. If your locs have heavy buildup, add a loc detox when you book. You do not need it if you are getting a retwist, as a wash is already included.

How do I choose which method to start my locs with?

We work it out together at your consultation, based on your hair and where you want your loc journey to go.

Which methods do you use to start locs?

For starter locs: instant crochet, comb twist or double twist, whichever suits your hair best. Micro locs are installed by interlocking from root to tip, or by twisting or plaiting to the ends.

What happens at my first starter loc appointment?

We talk through what you want and what I think will work best, then I wash and prep your hair and do any add-ons you have booked. Then I start your locs using the method we have agreed, sharing tips as we go.

How long do starter locs take?

Around 5 hours for starter locs and around 8 hours for starter micro locs.

How long before my locs are fully formed?

Anywhere from a few months to a few years, depending on your hair type and the starting method.

What is the awkward phase?

The stretch before your locs fully lock and form. Frizz, flyaways, shrinkage and loose hair are all completely normal, and patience really is the main thing.

Can I change the size of my locs later?

Choose carefully at the start, because sizing is permanent. There are ways to make locs thicker later, but making them smaller is very difficult.

What is the difference between locs and micro locs?

Size and number. Traditional locs are 10mm or larger with fewer strands. Micro locs are 6 to 9mm and there are far more of them: around 350 to 400 for small, 400 to 450 for mini, and 450 or more for micro.

How is maintenance different for micro locs?

Traditional locs are maintained every 6 to 8 weeks by palm roll retwist, interlocking or crochet. Micro locs are interlocked at the new growth every 4 to 6 weeks, a precise technique that passes the loc through the root, without heavy products.

Which is more versatile for styling?

Micro locs. They are lighter and there are more of them, so styles like high up-dos work more easily. Traditional locs are heavier and bulkier.

Are micro locs right for my hair type?

Micro locs suit type 4 hair best. They can be done on type 3 hair, but only with specific starting methods, which we would talk through first.

Are locs suitable for fine or low density hair?

Very fine or low density hair of any type tends to struggle with the weight of both micro and standard locs, so it is not a style I would advise.

Can you repair damaged or thinning locs?

Small fixes, like reattaching up to 10 locs, can be added when you book a maintenance appointment. For bigger repairs, combining locs or loc extensions, book an in-person consultation first or message me on WhatsApp so I can see what's needed.

Brows

Do I need a patch test for brow bleach and tone?

Yes, if you are new. You need a patch test before booking. Book the Colour Consultation & Patch Test on my booking page at least 48 hours before your brow appointment.

Care

How should I sleep with my hair?

Always a silk bonnet, or a silk pillowcase. Every night, whatever style you have in.

How often should I wash my locs?

Once every one to two weeks.

How often should I wash loose hair?

Once a week.

How often should I get a retwist?

Every 6 to 8 weeks for established locs, depending on your hair type, growth and how you like your locs to look. Starter locs need one every 4 to 6 weeks until they are fully formed. Micro locs are best maintained every 4 to 6 weeks.

My scalp is itchy after my appointment

Message me and let me know what it feels like. Do not wait it out.
